Gravimetric Apparatus

 

  • Thermometer, Barometer and Hygrometer

 

A thermometer was used to determine the environmental conditions at the beginning and the end of each Gravimetric test series. It is also recommended using a hygrometer and a barometer to record the barometric pressure and humanity.

 

  • Analytical Balance

 

An analytical balance XS205DU from Mettle Toledo™ was used to measure the mass of liquid.

 

While weighing, the container (a column of wells of a microtiter plate in this case) was placed onto the balance pan. The doors of the weighing chamber were closed to reduce the errors due to air flowing. Next, the container was tared and then the readout would read zero. This allowed the mass of the liquid to be read straightforward. After liquid was dispensed into the container, the container with the sample liquid was placed onto the balance pan gently. The weight of the liquid was recorded immediately after the digits of the display settled down.
